Well, the weather outside is frightful!
I always love this time of year, but this time I love it more. Mostly because I'm so grateful we are all together as a family.
My husband was in a car wreck on the freeway after the most recent snow storm. His car slid out of control in the snow when he had to swerve after another car almost hit him. He crashed into the cement median, crushing the rear of the car and tearing off the back bumper.
He was stuck there, perilously trapped on the freeway in low visibilty, freezing his bum off for an hour waiting for 911 to respond. When a cop finally showed up--he gave my husband a ticket "because he must have been driving faster than was safe for weather conditions."  My husband was surprised and aghast. He explained that he had only been going 45 mph and swerved to escape a collision with a truck coming into his lane-- causing his car to spin on the snow, the cop said he had already written the ticket--so to take it up with the judge. Way to pour lemon juice into a paper cut, huh?
Merry Frickin' Christmas, Quota Boy.
BUT thankfully the car was the only thing damaged--The pile up that could have happened and the injuries or deaths that could have occurred makes my stomach feel like a bag of ice cubes. So, who cares that we need a new car and have a ticket and all that.  I'm not going to lie-- this has been a rough year in a lot of ways, but Christmas is one week away and my hubby is here with us. I'm snug inside the house with all of my shopping done and all of the gifts wrapped--The kids are out of school and we can spend fun time with them baking, partying, caroling, playing games and watching Christmas movies. Life is swell.
It's kind of like at the end of It's A Wonderful Life... maybe things were still a little tough-- but George Bailey was alive! So somehow it was all good.
Merry Christmas, Bedford Falls!

Wow, glad nothing else happened! Maybe that cop was just mad that he had to get out of his vehicle in the freezing weather. Whimp.
I am so glad your husband wasn't physically hurt. Sorry that the officer was quota-hungry. Work long enough in law enforcement and something burns out inside you from sensory overload and other related factors. Life is a harsh mistress.

Have a healing, safe Christmas, Roland

We are so thankful Clark is okay!!! And yes, it IS a wonderful life, but I'm very jealous you're all ready for Christmas. I would have started wrapping tonight, but went out with Sarah and her girls, Katie, Kirsty and Mom instead. Had a wonderful time! Rare opportunity. Sarah slid off the road on her way here! These close calls help us cherish moments together. Miss you!
I'm so sorry about your husbands accident. The SAME thing happened to my brother in law in Utah a few years ago. He crashed because of black ice, it took an hour to get anyone out to help him, his air bag deployed and broke his nose and then he got a ticket for going to fast. He said the same thing. He was going Way UNDER the speed limit.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
P.S. I love your main character sketches!

I'm so glad your husband is okay - and BOO to that grinch of a cop. The only thing that makes me smile is knowing that a cop who's that bad at his job probably hates his life and creates his own misery. What a jerk.

I hope you enjoy your very safe, very merry, and very gratitude-filled holidays this year. There's nothing like having those we love most with us for the holidays.

What a frightening story. I'm so glad no one was hurt and your husband's home with you, safe and sound. Isn't it amazing how a close call like that can really make you appreciate the many blessings we so often take for granted?

Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Thanks, everyone (= And have a wonderful Holiday with your loved ones! (=
